Ann and Paul who live in Bournville House have been shortlisted in the BBC Radio Shropshire Make a Difference Awards.
They were nominated for the various activities they organise for their community and residents of Bournville House extra care scheme where they live.
Activities include Ann’s weekly art group, Paul helping Russell with the disco’s, supporting the intergenerational gardening activities at Easter and Christmas time with the local primary school as well as organising regular bingo and film nights.
Donna Lister-Trowell, Manager of Bournville House, said: “We’re delighted for Ann and Paul, who both have a real passion and commitment to being great neighbours and making a difference to others. Their regular activities are very popular, and they also make a real effort in welcoming new residents to ensure they feel part of the community.”
Ann and Paul have been invited to an awards ceremony in September, where the winners will be announced. The Make a Difference Awards were established at the height of the pandemic following the establishment of a virtual notice board where members of the public offered help or sought support from people in their local area.
The awards celebrate the everyday acts of kindness by members of the public who go above and beyond to make a difference where they live.
This year over 11,000 nominations for local heroes across the country were received. The Great Neighbour Award is given to an individual or group of people who help to make the neighbourhood or local community a better place to live or work, either on a regular basis or through a single act of kindness.
