Did you know there is a hair salon in Bournville House which is also open to the public? We recently met up with Deb the owner of Horton’s Salon to find out more about her and why she decided on Lightmoor Village!

How long have you had your salon in Bournville House?

It’s nearly 11 years now. I had my own salon in Ironbridge, but the landlord was selling up and I had to find somewhere else. I had lots of regular clients, so I wanted to find somewhere local. I used to come and have beauty treatments at Bournville House and knew there was a hair salon vacant. Originally, I thought I could come here temporarily while looking for a salon, but I’ve loved it so much I’m still here!

What’s your client base like?

It’s really varied, I have my clients from my salon previously, residents who come in from the village and then of course those who live in Bournville House. I love the variety and being able to give a very personal touch to each client.

How long have you been in hairdressing?

I can’t believe it but it’s over 30 years. I trained in Raymonds in Birmingham and learnt all aspects of hairdressing. Since then, I’ve worked as a rep and colour technician, teaching other salons to use the products and different techniques. I was also a perm consultant back in the day!

What do you enjoy about being a hairdresser?

You really have to be a people person, for me customer care is the most important, being able to listen to your client to find out what they want and consulting and advising them. I want everyone to leave feeling pampered and loving their hair!

Being in hairdressing for a long time, you must have some stories to tell?

Absolutely! Although as I always say what happens in the salon, stays in the salon! Although there is one incident that happened when I was training that I’ve never forgotten. It was back in the day when you used to put a cap on people’s hair and pull through strands of hair to highlight. I was asked to do a gentleman who wanted blond highlights, it was only when I pulled the cap off that I realised I’d dyed his eyebrows too!

What are your opening times?
I’m open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, although I’m flexible and will be happy to make appointments to suit. You can pop in and see me at the salon, message me via my Facebook page or give me a call on 07530 674506. I’m also delighted to say that we’re welcoming Zoey@secretasthetics to the salon, she’ll be with us once a month providing a range of treatments – more details on my Facebook page. The next date she’ll be with us is Wednesday 20th August.

Where is Bournville House?

It’s located in the heart of Lightmoor Village, opposite the village square and primary school. There’s free parking nearby and you can walk in the main entrance and the salon is to the left.
