Bournville House couple 'Highly Commended' in best neighbour awards

Posted on: 12 Oct 23

A huge congratulations to Bournville House residents Ann and Paul who were recently ‘highly commended’ in the best neighbour category of the BBC Radio Shropshire Make a Difference Awards.

The couple, along with their friend Val and representatives from BVT, Donna and Fleur, attended a ceremony recently where the couple’s story was brought to life in a video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bj9FyeXjmM&t=126s), with details of the various activities they organise for their community and residents of Bournville House extra care scheme where they live.

Ann and Paul commented: “We love being part of the community, being involved in activities and above all making people happy. We were so honoured to be nominated by BVT and had a lovely time at the award ceremony and were overwhelmed at all of the nominees stories.”

The Make a Difference Awards were established at the height of the pandemic following the establishment of a virtual notice board where members of the public offered help or sought support from people in their local area.

The awards celebrated the everyday acts of kindness by members of the public who go above and beyond to make a difference where they live.

This year over 11,000 nominations for local heroes across the country were received. The Great Neighbour Award is given to an individual or group of people who help to make the neighbourhood or local community a better place to live or work, either on a regular basis or through a single act of kindness.
