Lightmoor Village residents Darren and his eight-year-old son Thomas are currently preparing for this year’s Lawley 5K fun run.

Darren has run the Lawley 5K three times and recently ran the Manchester marathon. He’s a member of Lawley Running Club and enjoys the event as it supports the club and is local. Thomas is a sporty young man and is working towards his junior black belt in Karate, he’s run the 5K twice.

As well as running, the duo also take part in fancy dress. Last year Darren was Willy Wonka and Thomas was an Umpa Lumpa, the previous year they were Batman and Robin!

Mom Louise said: It’s important to us that our children grow up understanding how exercise can be enjoyable as well as keeping you healthy. Thomas has been a great supporter for Darren and cheers him on at most of his runs. He’s always wanted to run with his dad and has done a few park runs. The Lawley 5K felt like a safe and gentle way to encourage his love of running. Because it is a fun run it doesn’t feel like a proper race and the dressing up helps to reduce any pressure on Thomas.”

We can’t wait to find out what this year’s costumes will be!

This year’s fun run is taking place on 6th September, but places are limited, so if you’re interested you can sign up via https://www.entrycentral.com/form/105149
