It's time to vote - Lightmoor Village Estate Management Committee

We’ve recently invited residents to nominate themselves for the resident-led Lightmoor Village Estate Management Committee (LVEMC). We’re delighted that six residents have put themselves forward, meaning this will be a contested election.

LVEMC has five places available, and you will shortly receive an information pack from our electoral partner, Mi-Voice, explaining how to vote. Voting can be completed either online or by post.

Details of the six candidates are provided below in alphabetical order. The deadline for voting is 21 June. You can also find out more about the role of the committee here.

I have worked as a nuclear medicine radiographer in the NHS for the past 24 years. I have previously been a staff elected governor at my hospital where I represented staff at board level and I’ve been a student mentor in my job for many years. I used to also be a run leader at Wolves and Bilston AC which was a voluntary role as well as run director for West Park Parkrun in Wolverhampton. I have four rescue dogs and am very devoted to animal rescue centres.

I would like to be involved as I believe it is important for people in Lightmoor to live in a place that is clean, safe and secure. Having residents on the committee means that we have a voice and an opportunity to make our feelings known on issues that will affect us. It also gives us an opportunity to discuss the estate charge and how it’s best spent for the good of everyone. It’s easy for people to moan and complain but this is an opportunity to actually get involved and have a say which I welcome.

I am 52 years old and have many life skills and attributes that endear me to this role. I am very proud of my values of honesty and integrity and I’m not afraid to speak up but in a professional and respectful manner. I will speak up for the residents and try to ensure Lightmoor is as good a place to live as possible by working with all of the residents and BVT to ensure that.

I’ve been a resident on the village for the past 15+ years and have seen it develop over those years from a few residential properties to over a few thousand we have today. I’ve seen newborns develop in to teenagers and beyond them years. Many of you either know me or have seen me about either walking or on my red mobility scooter.

The thing I’m looking for is the development of the estate and helping the youngsters fit in on the estate, as there our future generation. I’m always up for hearing from residents on how we can make Lightmoor village a better community and how we can develop it going forward. I’m always open to discussions and never shy away from a problem.

Voting is a choice but I intend to be a spokesperson for the residents, make Lightmoor a better and safer place to live. Interact with the residents as I feel there’s a lack of that on the estate at the moment. Also my main priority is to see what we can do about the parking around the village as most residents know that parking is a nightmare and has been ever since the development of the village. I know many residents have asked about an allotment or spaces to grow their own due to cost of living, I intend to tackle that situation if I’m voted in thank you.

Hi, I’m Louise. I’ve lived in Lightmoor Village for 12 years, though I’m originally from Wolverhampton. I first came here to visit a friend and fell in love with the place almost immediately. I’m now married with a young family, and we’ve had a wonderful time living here—the community spirit is just amazing. When I’m not busy, I love walking and exploring our local area, and I’ve also recently started learning how to knit! I’ve worked in the NHS for nearly 20 years. Lately, my work has focused on making sure maternity service users have their voices heard so they can help shape their local services. This is something I’m really passionate about; I want to help people who don’t always feel confident speaking up. It’s important that everyone’s views are shared fairly so they can make a real difference, rather than just feeling like they are being difficult. I’ve been part of the Lightmoor Committee for a long time. It was originally run by BVT, but I’ve seen the community take much more of a leading role lately, and the impact has been huge. I enjoy helping out at community events and working on ways to improve how we talk and share information with residents. I truly believe that services work best when they are shaped by the people who actually use them. It makes things more sustainable and ensures the Village provides what we actually need, rather than what an outside organiser thinks we need. By working together, we can make sure every voice helps make our Village a better place.

I want to play a truly active role in our community by acting as a bridge between residents and the committee. My main goal is to use my experience to help everyone feel included and informed, making sure that no one feels like their perspective is “too small” to share. I’m also keen to keep learning and growing alongside the Village. While I hope to bring my own skills in communication and advocacy to the table, I’m looking forward to learning new ways to support local projects and discovering more about what matters most to my neighbours. Ultimately, I want to help create a community where we all feel empowered to suggest improvements and work together to make them happen.

Since I’ve lived here for 12 years and am raising my family here, I truly understand the little things that make a big difference to our daily lives. I believe I can offer a friendly, down-to-earth voice for our Village. I’m very approachable and would be happy for anyone to stop me for a chat—whether it’s to raise a concern or to share something positive that I can feed back to the committee. I think it’s so important that we communicate the wins and the changes happening in the area, rather than only focusing on the things that aren’t going so well. With 20 years in the NHS, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to people and making sure their feedback leads to actual improvements. I’m comfortable standing up for others, and I’m certainly not afraid to challenge senior leaders to make sure our community’s interests come first. I know how to navigate the system to get things done, but I also value a simple one-on-one conversation to understand what’s on your mind. If you vote for me, you’ll get someone who is fair, reliable, and truly cares about Lightmoor. I’m not just here to attend meetings; I’m here to ensure your ideas are heard and to do the work, so we can organise a future for our Village that works for all of us.

Hi, I’m Wendy. I’ve lived in Lightmoor Village for nearly 15 years with my husband and two daughters. I work as a teaching assistant at Lightmoor Village Primary School. Out of term time, I work with the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, helping with family activities. I spend most of my spare time walking my dog (litter picking as I go!), going to the gym and yoga.

I’m hoping to be re-elected onto the Lightmoor Village Estate Management Committee this year to continue giving residents a say in what happens in our village. I enjoy working with a team who are passionate about achieving value for money from BVT. My goal is to make our community the best it can be.

So far on the committee, I have supported the setting up of the Youth Club, the opening of the shop and restaurant, changes to the Design Guide, increasing the use of the Oak Tree Centre and reviews of BVT’s maintenance schedules. I would love to continue this work, and will continue to monitor and improve Lightmoor Village, making it a place where we are all proud to live.

I would like to learn new skills and feel like I have a purpose again as my husband works full time and I am a full-time mom of 6 children.

I have a lot of experience with event planning and fundraising. I would love to be a voice for the kids and look at what more can be offered for children around the village. We have lived in the village 7 years and had good and bad experiences so would love to be a voice for the residents too.

Hi I’m Jordan and I currently serve as Chair of the resident-led committee and I am nominating myself because I would like to continue supporting the community and representing residents’ views. Professionally, I work in the software development sector, which involves problem-solving, project management, communication, and working closely with different people to understand their needs and deliver practical solutions. Those skills have been very useful in my role on the committee, particularly when discussing local priorities, working through issues, and helping turn ideas into action. Outside of work, I have a strong interest in community involvement and making Lightmoor Village an even better place to live. During my time on the committee, I have been involved in discussions and partnership work with Bournville Village Trust, Telford & Wrekin Council and other local organisations, including work that helped support the setup of youth provision in the village.

I want to continue playing an active and constructive role in the community. Lightmoor Village is my home, and I care about ensuring residents have a voice in decisions that affect the area. For me, this role is about listening to residents, raising issues in the right forums, helping to find practical solutions, and supporting initiatives that make a positive difference locally. I would like to continue building on the progress made so far, strengthening communication between residents and Bournville Village Trust, and helping ensure that local concerns are heard and followed up. I also value the opportunity to keep learning from other residents, committee members and partner organisations. A strong resident-led committee should reflect a range of views and experiences, and I would like to keep contributing to that in a positive and balanced way.

Residents should vote for me because I have already shown commitment to the role and to the wider community. As the current Chair, I understand the responsibilities involved and the importance of being fair, approachable and focused on what benefits residents. I believe I can offer continuity, experience and a practical approach. I am comfortable chairing meetings, working with different organisations, reviewing information, asking questions, and helping keep discussions focused and constructive. My professional background also gives me useful skills in communication, organisation, problem-solving and project delivery. Most importantly, I care about Lightmoor Village and want to see it thrive. I believe the committee has an important role to play in making sure residents are represented, concerns are taken seriously, and community opportunities are supported. If re-elected, I will continue to listen, contribute and work hard on behalf of residents.
