Residents celebrate Africa Day at Bournville House
Posted on: 04 Jun 26
Last month, residents at Bournville House came together to celebrate Africa Day, which takes place annually on 25 May. The event was a wonderful opportunity for residents and carers to share stories, culture and traditions from across Africa in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Several members of the care team took part in the celebration, including Nikki and Pat from Nigeria, Sarah and Stella from Ghana, and Agnes from Uganda. During the afternoon, they spoke to residents about their home countries, sharing insights into local customs, traditions and daily life. Residents were also treated to traditional songs and dances, which brought plenty of smiles and laughter to the event.
The celebration sparked lots of conversation, with residents asking questions and showing great interest in learning more about the carers’ backgrounds and experiences. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate diversity, encourage cultural understanding and bring everyone together as a community.
Following discussions about traditional African foods, residents are now hoping to organise a future food tasting event. With so many talented cooks among the care team, it promises to be a delicious occasion — and there may even be more dancing, singing and opportunities to learn a few local phrases and languages too!
